Why choose Umbria for your wedding
In this post I want to convey my love for this beautiful region. Umbria is nature, good food, unique events and much more.
Today I am offering my experience and knowledge of Umbria to help you discover fantastic villages where time seems to stand still. If you are planning a wedding in Umbria and you are looking for special things to do and experience, you are in the right place!
A region to promote, to welcome… and to recommend
Since 2014 I have been working in this beautiful green corner of paradise and every day I discover new wonderful locations that I put at your service to make your wedding a special day.
Umbria is made up of villages to discover, lively and vibrant cities, splendid artistic and architectural beauties and breathtaking views.
Let’s begin a journey to the most beautiful places in this region, discovering curiosities, events and much more.
We start with Umbria’s main town, Perugia.
Discovering Perugia: history and contemporaneity
We are about to review a lively and dynamic university city that has its own history and tradition.
A beautiful medieval city with a large square with fabulous views and fairytale panoramas.
For those feeling adventurous, I recommend a tour of underground Perugia, where among art and history, you can relive the traditions of Umbria.
Beyond the city centre, a few kilometres away we find very particular and interesting villages and towns, including: Corciano, Deruta, Massa Martana, Montone and Passignano sul Trasimeno, not forgetting Castiglion del Lago.
In the lake Trasimeno area, in fact, we find truly picturesque towns with postcard views.
The lake area is also constantly on the rise and the flow of tourists is increasing.
Lake Trasimeno’s neighbouring towns are only a few kilometres from the border with Tuscany, and in a short time you can also visit the region’s splendid cities of art and the valleys immersed in the green Tuscan countryside.
Not only architectural and scenic wonders but also great events. As in the whole of Umbria, there are also unique and fascinating events in the Perugia area.
Among the many, we must absolutely mention:
– Umbria Jazz: This is probably the most important jazz-themed festival in Italy and among the most important in the world. It takes place in July and brings names like Alicia Keys, Stefano Bollani, Chick Corea, Sting, and Mika, to name but a few. It was founded in 1973 and every year the city dances with concerts and music-themed events throughout the city.
– Eurochocolate: this time in October, Perugia gets greedy with a gastronomic event dedicated to chocolate with show-cooking and exhibitions of major brands and confectionery artisans animating the entire centre.
And now we say goodbye to Perugia to dedicate ourselves to a truly mystical place with a very important religious value.
Assisi: a jewel between religion and folklore
Assisi is famous for St Francis, the patron saint of Italy, and for its artistic heritage.
In the world-famous city, religion, mysticism and art come together in one fantastic experience among basilicas and fortifications that will make you say: wow!
Like Perugia, Assisi is a destination for religious and cultural tourism but is also famous for its unique events such as:
– Calendimaggio: every year in May Assisi’s two parts of the city (upper Assisi and lower Assisi) compete against each other in a medieval festival with a great tradition.
– Palio di San Rufino: in August, it is time for archery (or rather crossbow) for the historical re-enactment that celebrates the city’s patron saint
In the surrounding areas we find other villages interesting for their beauty, art and good food, such as Spello (where, every year in June, the “infiorate” are held, turning the city into a splendid open-air painting), Trevi, Montefalco, the fountains of Clitunno, a little further away Todi and Torgiano on the other side Norcia and Cascia (and Castelluccio where there is also the flowering) and not to be forgotten the Marmore Falls, which are absolutely worth visiting.
Our journey ends by also highlighting the food and wine experiences that you can enjoy in the green heart of Italy: from succulent pasta dishes (perhaps with truffles), to cheeses and cured meats produced practically on the doorstep, to all kinds of chocolate.
To conclude, choosing Umbria for your wedding means being part of the beauty and history of this beautiful region.
I am Fatima Palomares and I cannot wait to meet you and start planning with you: your exclusive Italian wedding is closer than you think!
